Is Vela Right for Your Kitchen?

Vela is designed for projects that need the simplicity of a surface mounted cabinet light with a very shallow 6.5mm profile. There is no large recessed cut-out to plan, so three straightforward decisions will get the project ready for the Builder.

1

Choose Slim Surface Mounting

Vela sits beneath the cabinet at only 6.5mm deep. Choose it when you want a discreet round fitting without making the larger cut-out required by a recessed cabinet light.

2

Measure the Area to Light

Measure the worktop run you actually want to illuminate. The Project Builder uses that length to suggest a practical starting quantity, which you can adjust for the real kitchen layout.

3

Choose the Look & Control

Select Aluminium, Black or White, choose the white light you prefer and decide whether the zone needs touch dimming, occupancy sensing, door control or straightforward on/off switching.

You do not need to calculate driver wattage or count connection ports. The Loops Under Cabinet Lighting Project Builder matches one suitable 24V driver per zone, adds required distribution and guides you through controls, mains connection and useful accessories.

The Power System

How Does the 24V Lighting System Work?

Vela forms part of a low voltage under cabinet lighting system running at 24V DC. Each lighting zone uses one matched driver. Choose the lights and zones you want; the Project Builder matches the compatible driver, required distribution and controls for each zone.

Choose the lighting. The Project Builder handles the technical match.

You do not need to calculate driver wattage, count connection ports or work out which accessories are required. Build each lighting zone and we match the compatible power system behind it.

01 · CHOOSE Your Vela Lights Select the quantity, finish and white light option you want. Vela CCT fittings use 1.8W each; fixed white fittings use 2W each.
02 · WE MATCH The Correct 24V Driver The Builder totals the load for that zone and automatically selects a suitable driver and required distribution connections.
03 · YOU CONTROL Your Lighting Zone Add touch dimming, PIR occupancy or door control, or use a standard on/off wall switch.

6 Way Distribution Block Added automatically where more light connections are required.
How is the driver size calculated?

The driver is sized from the combined wattage of the lights in that zone. The Builder totals the combined load using the correct Vela rating: 1.8W per CCT fitting or 2W per fixed white fitting. It then selects a driver with suitable capacity for that zone.

What if I need more connections?

Compatible 6 way distribution blocks expand the available light connections. One driver port feeds the block, which then provides six light connections. The Project Builder automatically adds the required quantity where needed.

Does every light need its own driver?

No. Multiple Vela lights can operate from one compatible driver when they belong to the same lighting zone. Each zone uses one matched driver; capacity and available connections determine how the lights are grouped.

Different areas can work independently.

A lighting zone is a group of lights that operate together. Create another zone whenever a different area needs its own driver, sensor or switching behaviour.

Zone 1 · Main WorktopTouch Dimmer

Six Vela lights operate together from one matched driver and one touch dimmer.

Zone 2 · Coffee AreaPIR Sensor

Three lights operate independently and switch automatically using a PIR occupancy sensor.

Zone 3 · Display CabinetDoor Sensor

A separate cabinet lighting group operates from its own driver and compatible door sensor.

✓ One compatible sensor controls the whole zone, not each individual light. If two groups need different controls, configure them as separate zones in the Project Builder.

How will your driver connect to mains?

Choose the supplied mains cable for fixed wiring, or add the optional 2m UK plug cable where a suitable socket is available. Mains electrical work should be completed by a suitably competent person.

Optional 2m UK Plug Cable

Choose the plug lead when you want the driver to connect to a suitable existing socket instead of being permanently wired into the installation.

Any work involving the mains electrical supply should be carried out appropriately for the installation and applicable regulations.

Controls & Sensors

Choose Your Controls and Sensors

One compatible sensor controls every Vela light connected to the same lighting zone. Choose manual touch dimming, automatic occupancy control or automatic cabinet door lighting: all designed to connect into the 24V driver system.

Designed to be straightforward One sensor. One zone. All the lights respond together.
Controls the whole zone One compatible sensor operates every light connected to that driver. You do not need one sensor per light.
Doesn’t use a light port The sensor plugs into the driver’s dedicated control connection, so the light connections remain available for your fittings.
Plug & play control On the 24V side, the sensor connects using its fitted plug and 2m cable, making control setup quick and tidy once the driver is installed.

Prefer conventional switching? No sensor is required.

A standard on/off wall switch can control the driver’s mains supply. The drivers supplied with this system do not support dimming from a mains wall dimmer. For dimming, choose the Touch On/Off & Dimmer in the Project Builder. Alternatively, the driver can be connected to a permanent mains supply and the lighting controlled by a compatible PIR or door sensor.

Plan the Slim Surface Layout

How Many Vela Lights Do You Need—and Where Should They Go?

Start with the worktop area you want to illuminate. The Project Builder suggests a practical quantity; you then refine the light line, cable routes and final positions before anything is permanently fixed.

1

Measure the Illuminated Run

Measure the worktop area you actually want to light rather than automatically fitting one light per cabinet door. The Builder uses that run length to suggest a starting quantity.

2

Mark a Consistent Light Line

A position around 30–50mm back from the cabinet front edge is a useful starting point for task lighting. Keep the row consistent, then refine it for corners and changes in cabinet depth.

3

Plan the Cable Route

Each Vela light has a 2m fitted cable. Decide where the driver will remain accessible, how the cable will be concealed and whether any 2m or 5m extensions are needed. Vela itself does not require a large recessed cut-out.

4

Test Before Permanent Fixing

Temporarily check the proposed positions and light spread before drilling cable holes or securing the fittings. Cabinet depth, wall colour and reflective worktops can all affect the finished result.

Plan the illuminated worktop first: Use the Builder’s estimate as a starting point, then confirm the real cabinet layout, driver position and cable routes. Create separate zones where different areas need independent switching, dimming or sensor control.
Straightforward Surface Mounting

How Vela Is Installed

Vela surface mounts beneath the cabinet, so there is no large light recess to cut. Plan the position and cable route first, secure the mounting bracket, connect the 24V system and fit the light into place.

Vela slim round surface under cabinet light installation and mounting bracket
1

Plan the Position

Mark the illuminated worktop first. Around 30–50mm back from the cabinet front edge is a useful starting point, then test the light spread before final fixing.

2

Plan the Cable Route

Each light has a 2m fitted cable. If you want the cable concealed, make the small cable hole behind the fitting only after confirming where the driver will sit.

3

Secure the Surface Fitting

Secure the fitting beneath the cabinet using its mounting arrangement, keeping the cable clear so the 6.5mm body can sit flat against the surface.

4

Connect, Test & Fit

Connect the light to the matched 24V system, test operation and positioning, then fit the light neatly over the mounted bracket.

Does Vela need a large cabinet cut-out?

No. Vela fixes beneath the cabinet. You only need to plan the cable route. A small concealed cable hole can be used where required, but the light itself does not need a large recess.

Questions & Answers

Vela Questions and Answers

Quick answers to the slim surface mounting, white-light and 24V compatibility questions most likely to matter before you build a Vela cabinet lighting project.

Choosing and Planning Vela

Profile, positioning, finish and white-light choices.

What makes Vela different from a normal surface cabinet light?

Vela has a very shallow 6.5mm surface profile. It keeps the straightforward installation of a surface mounted light while reducing how far the fitting projects below the cabinet.

Does Vela need a large cabinet cut-out?

No. Vela is surface mounted. A small concealed cable hole can be used where required, but the light itself does not need the larger recess required by a recessed fitting.

How many Vela lights do I need?

Enter the worktop length you want to illuminate into the Project Builder and it will suggest a practical starting quantity. Refine the positions for the real cabinet layout before permanently fixing the lights.

Where should Vela lights be positioned?

A position around 30–50mm back from the cabinet front edge is a useful starting point for task lighting. Keep the light line consistent and test the proposed spread against the actual worktop before permanent fixing.

Which finishes and white light options are available?

Aluminium and Black are available in Colour Changing White (CCT), Warm White, Natural White and Cool White. White is available in Warm White, Natural White and Cool White.

What does CCT mean?

Colour Changing White (CCT) lets you select 2700K, 4000K or 6000K from the same fitting. It changes the shade of white; it is not RGB coloured lighting. Vela CCT is available in Aluminium and Black.

Vela, Aurelia or Eclipse?

Choose Vela when a very slim surface mounted round fitting is the priority. Choose Aurelia for a more substantial classic round surface form, or Eclipse for a recessed round finish where the cabinet can accept the required cut-out and depth.

Drivers, Controls and Installation

How the complete 24V system is powered, controlled and handed over.

Do Vela lights need a driver or transformer?

Yes. Vela is a 24V DC fitting. The LED driver, sometimes called a transformer, converts mains power to the 24V DC supply used by the lights. Each lighting zone uses one matched driver, selected automatically by the Project Builder.

Why do Vela CCT and fixed white versions use different wattages?

Vela CCT fittings are rated at 1.8W each and the fixed white versions at 2W each. The Project Builder uses the correct rating automatically when matching the driver for each zone.

How many Vela lights can I use in one zone?

The Project Builder supports up to 36 Vela lights in one zone and automatically matches the driver and required distribution. Create another zone when a group needs separate switching, dimming or sensor control.

Can Vela use a normal wall switch or wall dimmer?

A standard on/off wall switch can control the driver’s mains supply. The drivers supplied with this system do not support dimming from a mains wall dimmer. For dimming, choose the compatible Touch On/Off & Dimmer in the Project Builder. Alternatively, connect the driver to a permanent mains supply and control the lighting with a compatible PIR or door sensor.

Can I add motion or door sensors?

Yes. The Builder offers compatible touch dimming, PIR occupancy, single-door and double-door sensor options. One compatible sensor controls the lights in that zone; you do not need one sensor per light.

Can the 24V driver be hardwired or plugged into a socket?

Yes. Choose the supplied mains cable for fixed wiring, or add the optional 2m UK plug cable where a suitable socket is available. Mains electrical work should be completed by a suitably competent person.

What is included with each Vela light?

Each light includes the Vela 24V slim round surface LED fitting with its 2m fitted connection cable. The matched driver is selected as part of the complete project and is not included in the single-light starting price.

Does the Builder show the complete project price?

Yes. As you make choices, the Builder updates the complete project price for the lights, matched driver and selected controls or accessories before you add the project to your basket.

Can I give the finished plan to a fitter or electrician?

Yes. Build the project yourself, then save the Project Pack to give your fitter or electrician a clear record of the selected lights, system parts and zone plan. Permanent mains wiring should be completed by a suitably competent person.

How long is the Vela guarantee?

Vela is covered by a 5-year guarantee from purchase.
