What can it be used for?
Optical cables are used for transferring high quality audio signals between two devices commonly via TOSLink connectors. Optical connectors can be found on games consoles, amplifiers, DVD / Blu-Ray players and Hi-Fi setups. Quite a few devices now have a 3.5mm optical connection. This is exactly the same size as a standard headphone jack but a standard cable will not transmit the signal, you need a 3.5mm optical cable.
