BT Socket Extension Kit - External Copper CAT5e Cable Supplied

Why Buy - Can be cut to the length required during installation for a professional finish. This kit is supplied with high grade CAT5e cable, this is built to a higher specification than standard BT CW1308 cable (there is more twists per metre on each pair and the CAT5e is made from pure copper not CCS - copper clad steel). This ensures there is minimal degradation of the signal, perfect for maintaining broadband speed in another location.

Overview:

One end of the supplied outdoor rated cable should be attached to your current master socket (linebox) or another extension socket using the supplied IDC tool, the cable should then be clipped into place and run to the location where you would like your new BT extension socket. The wire should then be cut to length and connected to the new BT extension socket. As this is an outdoor kit, the cable can be run externally, two brick buster plates are supplied with the kit which cover drilled brickwork where a cable enters or exits the exterior of a building. They can be fitted with silicone and will help prevent the ingress of water into the hole in the brickwork. For a single BT extension, only 3 of the 8 cores in the supplied CAT5e cable will be used, if you have 2 lines, the spare cores could be used for this. If you ever decided you wanted to use the cable in a networking application (instead of for a BT line), it would be perfect for this too.

What's Included?

25m or 50m CAT5e (4 Pair) Outdoor Cable - Solid Copper Core 0.20mm² 24AWG

1 x Surface Mounted BT Extension Socket with Screws & Back Box

2 x Brick Buster Plates

100 x 5mm Cable Clips

1 x IDC Tool

Further Installation Information:

On the newer NTE5A master sockets there is a removable front panel where there are 3 IDC terminals and a cable can be attached using an IDC tool. The extension socket should be wired to the master socket in the following format; terminal 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and 5 to 5. If you have an older master socket (that doesn't have a removeable front panel), the wiring is still the same however a BT 431A connector should be crimped onto the extension cable and this should be plugged into the front of your master socket. If you still need to use your master socket locally, you will need to purchase a BT splitter adapter.
