Differences Between XLR DMX Cables & XLR Audio Cables
Although XLR audio cables and XLR DMX cables will attach together and seem to be the same, there are some fundamental differences that make these two cables different. If an XLR audio cable is used instead of an XLR DMX cable, problems are likely to arise and it may not be good for your equipment in the long term. The two cables have completely different resistances, XLR audio is 75 ohm and XLR DMX is usually 120 ohm. XLR audio cables have a higher capacitance, if they are used instead of XLR DMX they can distort the digital waveforms.
XLR audio cables are made for frequencies up to 20KHz where as DMX runs at 25Khz, therefore if you want a good quality signal to be transferred, a DMX cable will be the best option. Using the correct cable will prevent irregular operation and intermittent errors that are sometimes very difficult to spot and correct.
