Satellite Signal Meter - Backlit display & audible alignment tone.

Overview

Our satellite finder helps a novice to set up a satellite dish for optimum reception. It can be used to to align dishes for all receivers, it doesn't matter if they have an analogue or digital reception. Simply connect the cable currently connecting to your satellite dish to this device and use a short F connector cable to run from this device to your dish.

How do I use it?

To start, you will need to make sure your satellite receiver is switched off. Your satellite dish should obviously be installed on a suitable wall. The cable from your receiver should then be attached to the signal meter (socket labelled REC). You should then use an F connector lead to connect the meter to the dish. Your receiver can then be turned back on, which will help with the installation as it will be useful to access your receivers menu to view the signal stength and quality. If you do not have a receiver box in the location where you are installing the dish (freesat/sky which would normally power the signal meter), you may be better off purchasing our kit as it comes with a battery pack (please search through our shop).

You need three pieces of information about the satellite you wish to point your dish at. All are measured in degrees and you should start with step 1.

1) Azimuth - This is the dish position in respect to north and a compass should be used to work this out. Astra 2D is the satellite for Sky & Freesat, the azimuth value for this satellite is 28.2 degrees east of south. Please note that when using a compass, you will need to subtract about 2-3 degrees from the azimuth angle for the magnetic variation in the UK. When you think your dish is aligned correctly, the meter supplied should be used to peak the signal, the higher the audible tone, the stronger the signal. If the signal becomes too strong and off the scale, the db control can be used to bring the needle back down and you can begin fine tuning again to peak the signal/needle.

2) Elevation - This is the inclination that the dish is set to. In order to adjust it properly, you must look at the numbers (degrees) on the rear side of the dish. For elevation, your dish may have an elevation indicator which it can be put to. If it doesn't, the elevation varies depending on your exact location and will usually be between 20-30 degrees. Trial and error or copying another dish nearby will help.

3) Polarisation / LNB Skew - The polarisation is the LNB rotation in respect to floor. The skew on the LNB varies from 15 degrees in the north of Scotland to 22 degrees in the south west of England for Astra 2D. Always rotate clockwise when looking at the front of the dish face on.

After everything is altered, make all the bolts tight on your dish and be careful not to move anything.
